How to Tell If You Have Plumbing Leaks

sunny-plumbersWhen you own a home, there are problems that you realistically have to expect to encounter at some point. This isn’t us being negative. We sincerely hope that you run into problems as infrequently as possible, but that doesn’t change the fact that you will run into them eventually. One such problem, even with our outstanding services, is plumbing leaks. The good news is that we also offer outstanding plumbing repair services in Corona, CA. That begs an important question.

How do you tell if you have plumbing leaks in your home? That’s what we’re going to talk about today. Now, it may sound obvious. You just look for signs of leaks, such as pools of water in your home, right? Well, sure. But plumbing leaks are not always going to be quite that obvious. They may be, and you certainly shouldn’t ignore obvious signs of trouble, but there are some less obvious warning signs that you should be aware of, as well.

You Need to Be Listening for Leaks, Not Just Looking!

We are not telling you that you need to go out and purchase specialized leak detection equipment that allows for the sonic identification of leaks. That something for plumbing professionals to use. We just mean that you have to recognize odd occurrences in your home, such as the sound of running water when you know for sure that you’re not using any. Unless there’s a babbling brook behind your home, you shouldn’t be hearing such sounds!

This is actually very important because you are not always going to see water pooling somewhere in your home when you have a leak. At least, not right away. When you hear evidence of a leak, acting fast can really help you to limit the risk of incurring serious damage to your home.

Pay Attention to Water Costs

Another way to spot leaks in your home is to not look for leaks themselves, but the cost of leaks. Remember, any water that is leaking out of any supply pipe on your property is water that you’re paying for. Even a relatively small leak is going to cost you money over time.

We understand that writing a check without paying much attention to the amount you paid last time around is easy to do, but you should really have a general idea of how much your water bill usually adds up to. That way, you can spot any major discrepancies and intervene in leaks early on.

You May Smell  Something  Odd, or Something Foul

All of your senses can play a role in detecting leaks, including your sense of smell. A musty odor in your home could mean that water damage is already taking a toll, for instance, or that mold is already starting to develop due to damp conditions.

Of course, you should also keep in mind the fact that it’s not just water supply pipes that can leak. Drain pipes, or even a sewer line, could also leak. And trust us, you’ll be hard-pressed to ignore those odors!
